Resides in Watonga, OK
We’re proud to introduce Carol Cowan as the 2010 Farm Mom of the Year.
You helped select Carol from a group of 5 regional finalists as the woman who best represents the passion, dedication and commitment of today’s farm mom. Whether it’s going above and beyond for her family, playing a vital role in the success of her family’s farm or her involvement in local agricultural organizations, Carol has clearly demonstrated that she is deserving of such an honor through everything she does.
Congratulations, Carol, and thanks to everyone who voted!
"I am really thrilled! I’m so excited I just can’t put it into words. I’ve always been a believer in the farm life – it’s where I’m meant to be. I wasn’t looking for recognition, but it’s nice to be appreciated. I’m just so excited!" — Carol Cowan
Carol Cowan was raised on farm, so she’s no stranger to hard work. Cowan has lived in Watonga all her married life and helps her husband grow wheat, soybeans, alfalfa and raise cattle. She has taken many meals to the field so they could keep working to get harvest done. And I'm talking big meals; no sandwiches for her family. She knows and cares about what’s needed to keep up your strength doing the hard labor that farmers do. She and her husband have raised four children and their son now farms with them. Family is very important to Carol as I have watched her with her parents, husband and children. She was very involved in her children's school activities and volunteered her service many times. She has been a sponsor on many church and school sponsored trips. And even finds time to support the American Cancer Society Relay for Life each year. Carol is also active in her college alumni. She just finished her Oklahoma Agricultural Leadership Program with a great trip to Spain and Morocco. She is always looking for ways to learn more about agriculture. Most moms only have a one job, maybe two, but Carol wears many hats and enjoys them all. I believe our country would have better people in it if they were all raised on a farm with Carol. She could show anyone how hard, honest work will make you happy and successful. Every family needs a mom like Carol. (nominated by Nancy Baker)
